    • {Called up in 1945 for East Surrey Regiment and trained in Canterbury, where he met Joyce, who was a Bell Telephone operator there. After 12 weeks training, went to headquarters in Kingston. Regiment was sent to ISrael, but Roy was kept in office. After an adventure leading the guard platoon on a ship full of German POWs, he ended up in Germany, then was transferred to Royal Fusilliers, then stationed in Germany, first in Bauer, then in Rechlinghausen. After about 2 years there, he was demobilized. }
